Jamie Foxx Helps Save Man From Burning Vehicle, Says He’s ‘Not A Hero’

Jamie Foxx assisted in rescuing a man from a burning vehicle near his home in Ventura County, Calif., Monday night.

Jamie Foxx The Hero

Foxx was at his house when Brett Kyle, 32, crashed his Toyota Tacoma, skidding off the highway, hitting a drainage ditch and rolling over multiple times, according to the California Highway Patrol. The vehicle then caught on fire with Kyle still inside.

Running outside his property, Foxx joined and off-duty EMT to cut Kyle out of his seat belt to free him from the truck.

“As I’m getting him out, I said, ‘You’ve got to help me get you out because I don’t want to have to leave you,’ ” Foxx told CNN affiliate KCAL. “I said, ‘You’ve angels around you.'”

“I don’t look at it as heroic. I just look at it as … you just had to do something,” Foxx told KCAL. “It all worked out.”

“When fire crews arrived on scene just one minute later, they reported the vehicle as fully involved in fire,” Ventura County Fire Department spokesman Capt. Mike Lindbery told CNN. “The patient was taken to the hospital with burn injuries. There was no one else in the truck.”

“It was a pretty courageous thing to do,” Lindbery added of the rescue. “It’s rare these days that you find someone willing to jump in to help like that.”

Kyle’s father Brad Kyle came to visit the scene of the accident the following day, and praised Foxx for his actions.

“I think we all hope that we could do something when the time is there. But the question is do we, do we act or do we fear our own lives – and [Jamie] did not,” Brad Kyle said. He also noted that Foxx allowed him to watch the video of the crash that was captured by his security cameras. “I just kept watching it and going, ‘My god, my god. He didn’t have to do a thing.'”

On Instagram, Foxx shared a picture of himself embracing the father. The Oscar-winner wrote, “Met the father of the young man from last night today,” adding, “This is all that matters. That a man, a son, a brother’s life was spared last night. God had his arms wrapped around all of us…No heroes…Just happy fathers.”

Brett Kyle, the driver, suffered major trauma to the head, chest, neck and waist. He was eventually arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
