Jamie Foxx Goes Off Script As 2018 BET Awards Host [VIDEO]

Jamie Foxx kept things interesting last night as the 2018 BET Awards show host. The actor, singer and producer continually surprised the live audience and viewers at home with his unscripted moments. Blame it on the “a a a a a alcohol?”

Foxx opened the show with a five-minute tribute to the Black Panther movie and cast. Watch the monologue below, in which he addresses “the panther in the room.”

At the end of his speech, he invited Michael B. Jordan on stage to recite the last line from the blockbuster: “Bury me in the ocean with my ancestors who jumped from the ships, because they knew death was better than bondage.”

Later, the host brought rapper and actor Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) on the stage, getting the crowd to sing Glover’s song “This is America.” Watch below:

Foxx later took the stage in a robe and briefs to mock Glover’s pajama-like outfit.

“This is how I sleep, bro!” he joked. The host also delved into celebrity beef between Oprah Winfrey and Mo’Nique after the success of the movie Precious (2009).

“There’s a lot of beefs…I am talking about Mo’Nique and Oprah. How did that happen? How was they beefin’? ‘Cause we love them. We know Oprah tried to fix it. Come on Mo’Nique!” He then yelled, “Settle down, Mo’Nique!”

He gave an impression of the Oscar winner, adding, “We love Oprah and we’re scared of Mo’Nique.”

Anita Baker, winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award, shared a piano duet with Foxx, who performed his own little set before announcing Baker.

The host’s most memorable moments of the night ended on a serious note, with the notion of gun violence in America and XXXTentacion’s recent death.

“I want to take a moment and acknowledge this young brother who was killed earlier this week,” Foxx said. “Young people, you have got to stop the violence. Whether you agreed with his lifestyle or not, he was a young talent who was taken from us too soon. No matter where you start, you have the opportunity to change.”
