James Woods tweeted this week that if Donald Trump is not reelected in November “America is gone forever,” though the people in his replies didn’t seem too convinced.

“This is our last stand, folks. And here’s your last defender,” Woods tweeted on Wednesday. “If they take him down, America is gone forever. Vote for @realDonaldTrump like your life depends on it.”

The Casino actor’s name began trending on Friday after the president himself responded to the tweet, writing, “Thank you James. Sadly, you are 100% correct!!!”

Woods has been a vocal supporter of the president for several years, and has been known to tweet right-wing conspiracy theories. The actor has had his Twitter account temporarily locked on more than one occasion, including when he tweeted a photo of “intimate media” that allegedly showed a naked and passed out Andrew Gillum, a former Democratic nominee for the governor of Florida.

Woods had been taking a break from Twitter after the social media site locked his account for a tweet in April 2019 with the hashtag “#HangThemAll.” The site said his account would be reinstated if he deleted the tweet, but he said he would quit tweeting all together, until he returned in May of this year.

This week’s tweet, partially in thanks to the response from Trump himself, garnered almost 24,000 responses, many of which disagreed with Woods’ take that Trump is “America’s last defender.”
