James Woods Files $10 Million Law Suit Against Twitter Troll

James Woods is suing an anonymous Twitter user for $10 million for suggesting that the actor was a cocaine addict.

James Woods Suing Twitter Troll For $10 Million

Woods reportedly filed the suit on Wednesday with the Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming that the person tweeting under the name “Abe List” – referred to as AL in court documents – damaged his reputation. According to the suit, Woods is asking for $10 million in damages, saying, “AL’s reckless and malicious behavior, through the worldwide reach of the internet has now jeopardized Woods’ good name and reputation on an international scale.”

The tweet in question labeled Woods as a “cocaine addict” and was sent on July 15 in response to a tweet by Woods, an active conservative, about Planned Parenthood and “Bruce Jenner” (Woods has apparently not learned to call Caitlyn Jenner by her chosen name.)

“USATODAY app features Bruce Jenner’s latest dress selection, but makes zero mention of Planned Parenthood baby parts market,” Woods tweeted early on July 15.

Woods’ suit claims that Abe List (@abelisted) responded to the tweet, writing “@RealJamesWoods @benshapiro cocaine addict James Woods still sniffing and sprouting.”

In his suit, Woods denies the accusation, stating, “Woods is not now, nor has he ever been a cocaine addict, and AL has no reason to believe otherwise.”

Woods is reportedly furious with the twitter user, who frequently challenged Woods’ sometimes extreme political tweets. In response to a separate tweet about Presidnt Barack Obama, Abe List called Woods a “ridiculous scum clown-boy” and “a joke,” according to the suit.

“The owner of the AL Twitter Account has thousands of followers and, since at least December 2014, has undertaken to engage his followers with a campaign of childish name-calling targeting against Woods,” reads the complaint.

According to reports, because Woods is a public figure, he would have to prove malice for the Tweets to qualify as defamation. It’s unclear whether or not Woods sought other actions prior to filling this lawsuit, such as filing a complaint with Twitter or simply blocking Abe List’s Twitter account.

After news of Woods’ lawsuit broke, many users on Twitter made light of the proceedings, noting the strangeness of Woods taking legal action against what is commonly dismissed as Twitter trolls.

Woods has not commented on the suit, and the identity of Abe List remains unknown.
