James Van Der Beek Joins 'CSI: Cyber'

In CSI: Cyber, Van Der Beek will play FBI Agent Elijah Mundo opposite Patricia Arquette’s Special Agent Avery Ryan, who runs the FBI’s Cyber Crime Division.

“[Elijah Mundo] is an expert in battlefield forensics recruited by Special Agent Avery Ryan (series star Patricia Arquette) for his war efforts in Afghanistan. Mundo is a savant when it comes to weaponry, vehicles and bombs,” CBS announced Wednesday, according to Entertainment Weekly. “A self-proclaimed action junkie, Agent Mundo will often put himself at risk to seek permanent justice, while Ryan will level his diehard behavior with her expertise in psychology. Together, they will team up to fight the world’s toughest cyber crimes.”

Also starring in Cyber is Ally MacBeal’s Peter MacNicol and Community’s Charley Koontz.

CSI: Cyber, created by Anthony E. Zuiker, Carol Mendelsohn and Ann Donahue, is inspired by cyber-psychologist Mary Aiken.

In addition to the short-lived Friends with Better Lives, Van Der Beek’s post-Dawson’s Creek career has featured a starring role on Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23 and a recurring guest role on CBS’s How I Met Your Mother. He also had a supporting role in feature film Labor Day, which starred Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin.
