James Spears Asks Court To Investigate Britney Spears’ Allegations On Her Conservatorship

Britney Spears’ father asked the court to investigate the singer’s statements made to the judge last week regarding her conservatorship, specifically Britney’s allegation on the control over her personal life and medical treatments.

James Spears claimed in a pair of documents, filed on June 29, that he has not had power over his daughter’s personal affairs for about two years.

The documents demand that the court investigate the “serious allegations regarding forced labor, forced medical treatment and therapy, improper medical care, and limitations on personal right.”

“Given the nature of allegations and claims, it is critical that the court confirm whether or not Ms. Spears’ testimony was accurate in order to determine what corrective actions, if any, need to be taken,” he said in the filing.

The documents were filed a week after Britney spoke in open court for the first time about the conservatorship that has taken control over her life and finances for 13 years. She expressed her frustration over those who held power over her and said that she has been forced to perform live shows, to use an IUD that will not allow her to have more children and to take lithium and other medications against her will.

“I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive,” she said.

James had control over Britney’s personal life for the majority of the conservatorship. Currently, he oversees her money and business dealings with an estate-management firm. Jodi Montgomery, a court-appointed professional, has had control over Britney’s personal affairs and decisions ever since her father gave up that role in 2019.

“Mr. Spears is not the conservator of the person. He has not been the conservator of the person since September 2019,” says one of the court filings. “Ms. Montgomery has been fully in charge of Ms. Spears day-to-day personal care and medical treatment.”

The court expected to make Montgomery’s role permanent, but one of James’ documents said his daughter’s criticism during the hearing suggested she does not want her to take control over her personal life.

James also claimed that when he was a conservator over Britney’s personal decisions, he did everything he could to look after her well-being. He added that he consented to her marriage in 2012 and wanted to share conservatorship duties with her then-fiancé. Britney was engaged to former manager Jason Trawick in 2012, but the couple ended their relationship in 2013.

“Either the allegations will be shown to be true, in which case corrective action will be taken, or they will be shown to be false, in which case the conservatorship can continue its course. It is not acceptable for the Conservators or the Court to do nothing,” the filing reads.
