James Holzhauer Wins For The 23rd Time ‘Jeopardy’

James Holzhauer has won yet another game of Jeopardy. After a two week break due to a Teacher’s Tournament, the 34-year-old champion and sports gambler, came back to defend his title on Monday and has now won 23 consecutive games. Impressive? Definitely.

Prior to Monday’s win, Holzhauer had 22 wins dating back to April 4 when he first appeared on the show. As of now, his total winnings are $1.7 million, putting him in second place behind Ken Jenning, who remains number one, winning 74 games consecutively and earning $2.5 million in prize money.

The 23 million weekly viewers of Jeopardy were thrilled to have Holzhauer back on the show. On Jeopardy‘s Twitter page, fans were raving, posting comments like, ‘I’d never thought I’d ever say, “Sorry, I have to go home and watch Jeopardy,” and “James is back tonight.”

 

Many people have also wondered how Holzhauer continues his winning ways. Although, on the show he stated that he went to the University of Illinois and he “majored in online poker and went to class as little as necessary,” the champion told The New York Times, “You can see as soon as I get control of the board in the first game, I’m going for the $1,000 clues whenever I have the opportunity,” he said comparing the game to poker. “There are big advantages to having a lot of chips early on in a poker tournament. You can make plays that other people can’t.”

It is not yet known when Holzhauer will be back next on Jeopardy.
