Director James Gunn just revealed the cast for the Suicide Squad reboot through a post to Twitter revealing some big name stars.

Some of the stars are returning to reprise their roles. It was confirmed that Margot Robbie will return to her role as Harley Quinn (she is also playing the character in Warner Brother’s upcoming movie, Birds of Prey). Joel Kinnaman is returning as government agent Rick Flag, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Idris Elba has joined the cast as an unnamed new character as well as Guardian of the Galaxy star Michael Hooker. Nathan Fillion, John Cena, Peter Capaldi, Taika Waititi, Pete Davidson and newcomer Daniela Melchior are all cast to make appearances in the film as well.

Some stars who had roles in the 2016 Suicide Squad film, such as Will Smith, Jared Leto, Cara Delevingne, Karen Fukuhara and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, will not be reprising their roles in the reboot.

The primary filming for Suicide Squad 2 will take place at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayetteville. The stage is where Gunn previously shot Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 and is expected to shoot Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 there, once he is finished with the reboot. Warner Brothers has given the film an August 2021 release date.

Producer Peter Safran wanted to remind the audience that this film is a “total reboot” not a sequel. “It’s everything you would hope from a James Gunn script, and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot,” he said in a statement.
