The 148-tweet twitter saga shared by Aziah “Zola” Wells now has a film adaption. The film is set to be directed by James Franco and written by Neel and Mike Roberts.
The story was tweeted on October 27 beginning, “Okay listen up. This story is long. So I met this white b-tch at Hooters…” And #TheStory, as it was called by followers everywhere (including some famous faces like Nicki Minaj, Keke Palmer, and others) went on to recount mostly-true events which include an attempted suicide, a kidnapping, a homicide, and more.
Ava Duverney, director of Selma tweeted:
The movie will be more of an adaption of the Rolling Stone article from last November “Zola Tells All: The Real Story Behind The Greatest Stripper Story Of All Time” since the original Twitter travelogue does have some embellishments. Jessica Swiatowski, the “white b-tch,” has denied many of the claims that Zola made in her Twitter chronicle.
Franco will be producing with Vince Jolivette through their Rabbit Bandini Productions with Killer Films’ Christine Vachon and David Hinojosa and Gigi Films’ Gia Walsh and Kara Baker. Franco, Neel, and Killer Films most recently collaborated on Goat which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
Along with being immensely entertaining, Zola’s unbelievable story reminds readers of the reality of sexual trafficking in America.
