James Franco Remaking Made-For-TV Cult Classic ‘Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?’ For Lifetime

James Franco, Hollywood’s ultimate multi-hyphenate, is executive producing a remake of the made-for-TV cult classic Mother, May I Sleep with Danger for Lifetime.

‘Mother, May I Sleep With Danger’ Remake

Franco has partnered with Lifetime and producer Sony Pictures Television for the remake of Mother, May I Sleep with Danger, which originally aired on NBC in 1996, reporter Vulture. The movie, which stars Tori Spelling as a naive college student and Ivan Sergei as her boyfriend with a dark secret, aired in reruns on Lifetime and other networks following its premiere, leading it to gain a cult following.

Amber Coney will write the script and Melanie Aitkenhead will direct the remake based on Franco’s story. Casting has yet to be announced, though its believed that Spelling with have a part in the project.

“Get ready for some LIFETIME madness,” Franco wrote on Instagram.

Mother, May I Sleep with Danger is not the only cult classic-inspired project Franco is working on at the moment. He’s currently filming the The Disaster Artist about the making of 2003 film The Room, which starred Tommy Wiseau and Greg Sestero. In the feature, Franco will play Wiseau to his brother Dave Franco‘s Sestero. “THE DISASTER ARTIST: The making of THE ROOM,” he captioned a snap of the two in hair and makeup. “It has begun!!!!!”
