James Durbin Eliminated From 'American Idol'
Heavy metal singer and judge favorite James Durbin, 22, was eliminated from American Idol Thursday night after a record-setting 72 million audience votes in the top-four round of competition.
Both Durbin and judge Jennifer Lopez broke down in tears after receiving the news from host Ryan Seacrest. As a farewell song, Durban sang a rendition of Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed. "I worked so damn hard and I was hoping to get there," Durbin said. "But I did so much stuff that's never been done on the show. I did what I came here to do, and that was to give metal a chance."
The father of one from California garnered a large fan base after opening up about his struggles with Tourette's and high-level autism.
The final three contestants left to compete for the tenth season’s top prize are Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart, and Scotty McCreery.
