James Corden Apologizes For Abusing Waiter At New York Restaurant

James Corden started Monday’s episode of The Late Late Show by addressing allegations of abusive behavior made by noted restauranteur Keith McNally earlier this month.

“Look when you make a mistake you’ve gotta take responsibility,” Corden said. “I made a rude comment and it was wrong. It was an unnecessary comment. It was ungracious to the server.”

Corden explained that a few weeks ago while in New York, he, his wife, and friends went for breakfast at Balthazar.

Corden said his wife explained her severe allergy to the restaurant staff but was later served the wrong meal with food she was allergic to.

“In the heat of the moment, I made a sarcastic rude comment about cooking it myself,” he said. “I deeply regret it. I understand the difficulties of being a server. I have such respect and value anyone that does such a job.”

According to an Instagram post by McNally on October 17, after being served the wrong omelet Corden allegedly shouted, “You can’t do your job! You can’t do your job! Maybe I should go into the kitchen and cook the omelette myself!”

McNally also called Corden “a tiny Cretin of a man,” and “the most abusive customer to my Balthazar servers since the restaurant open 25 years ago.”

McNally said this was not Corden’s first outburst in one of his restaurants.

In his Instagram post, McNally said Corden “was extremely nasty” to servers in June after reportedly finding a hair on his plate.

McNally subsequently banned Corden from his restaurants, which include Minetta Taverna and Cafe Luxembourg.

He later unbanned the comedian, saying on Instagram, “James Corden just called me and apologized profusely… All is forgiven.”

The whirlwind of allegations on social media has come as a shock to Corden.

“Because I didn’t shout or scream, like I didn’t get up out of my seat. I didn’t call anyone names or use derogatory language. I’ve been walking around thinking I haven’t done anything wrong. But the truth is, like, I have,” Corden said.

“I hope I’m allowed in again one day. So when I’m back in New York, I can go there and apologize in person, which is something I’ll absolutely do.
