Jake Owen Shares First-Hand Experiences On Stage At Las Vegas Shooting

Country singer Jake Owen was on stage with Jason Aldean when shooting broke out at the outdoor venue in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

JAKE OWEN SHARES ACCOUNT OF VEGAS SHOOTING

Owen shared his first-hand account of the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history on the Bobby Jones Show, saying it was “like a bad movie.”

“You could hear it ringing off the top of the roof,” the singer said. “There was people freaking out, everyone starting fleeing every which way. When you got out in the parking lot area where we were running to, there’s people bleeding and lying in the streets. It’s literally like a bad movie, like something you dream and think you’re going to wake up at any point. I think we’re all still trying to figure out … this is real life. This is weird.”

Of the crowd of more than 22,000 people, 58 were killed and over 500 injured. Owen considers it a “miracle more people were not injured… it was a perfect angle. You have a sea full of people out there and a guy that sounded like a fully automatic rifle. There was no chance for a lot of people to get out of the way.”

Owen also admitted that, at first, he thought the gunshots were fireworks. “What was crazy was, I’ve heard guns fire,” Owen said. “This sounded like a full-on automatic rifle just unloading. At that point you could just see, Jason [Aldean] was out on the catwalk and he just put his guitar up in the air and started running back towards the drum set to get off the stage. That’s when you knew. People starting fleeing in the crowd. It was wild, I’ve never seen anything, obviously, like this before.”

“We put on concerts to take people away from the day-to-day life, to bring them to a happy place and this isn’t by any means what’s supposed to happen at these things,” the 36-year-old added. “I think us, as a community, aren’t going to let this bring us down either. We’re going to continue to do what we do… because this isn’t what our America is supposed to be like. We’ve got to fix this.”

Aldean took to Instagram last night to talk about his hopes, and to encourage fans to look to love, not hate. “Over the last 24 hrs I have gone through lots of emotions. Scared, Anger, Heartache, Compassion and many others. I truely dont understand why a person would want to take the life of another. Something has changed in this country and in this world lately that is scary to see. This world is becoming the kind of place i am afraid to raise my children in,” Aldean wrote. “At the end of the day we arent Democrats or Republicans, Whites or Blacks, Men or Women. We are all humans and we are all Americans and its time to start acting like it and stand together as ONE! That is the only way we will ever get this Country to be better than it has ever been, but we have a long way to go and we have to start now. My heart aches for the Victims and their families of this Senseless act. I am so sorry for the hurt and pain everyone is feeling right now and there are no words i can say to to take that pain away. Just know u all are in my heart and my prayers as we all go through this together. Time to come together and stop the hate! #stopthehate #prayforlasvegas.”
