WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 06: A protester screams "Freedom" inside the Senate chamber after the U.S. Capitol was breached by a mob during a joint session of Congress on January 06, 2021 in Washington, DC. Congress held a joint session today to ratify President-elect Joe Biden's 306-232 Electoral College win over President Donald Trump. A group of Republican senators said they would reject the Electoral College votes of several states unless Congress appointed a commission to audit the election results. Arizona resident Jacob Anthony Chansley, also known as Jake Angeli, was arrested Saturday after he took part in last week’s riot in the U.S. Capitol.
Angeli was seen in photos shirtless, in red, white and blue face paint with a horned helmet inside the Capitol building on January 6 when pro-Trump protesters stormed the Capitol to try to stop Congress in the counting of electoral college votes. “This individual carried a spear, approximately six feet in length, with an American flag tied just below the blade,” said a Justice Department official in a statement.
Angeli was charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and with violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. In footage from that eventful day, he was seen pumping his bicep on the dais in the Senate chamber.
“The fact that we had a bunch of our traitors in office hunker down, put on their gas masks and retreat into their underground bunker, I consider that a win,” Angeli told NBC News after the riot.
Angeli, also known as the “QAnon Shaman,” is a loyal Trump supporter and frequent attendee of far-right events. He is known for supporting the QAnon conspiracy theory. The QAnon theory alleges that there is a battle between good and evil and that President Donald Trump is the good that will eventually lead society to a utopia.
A mural that features Angeli is now on display in Tunbridge Wells, England.
