Fans who turned out for the Jack White concert in Detroit’s Masonic Temple Theater Friday got a better deal than they were ever expecting. Not only did they get to see the legendary rocker play, but also saw a wedding out of the deal free of charge when White suddenly proposed to his girlfriend Olivia Jean right while playing his classic “Hotel Yorba.”

Jean has been opening for White on this tour, and she was performing backup vocals for White when he suddenly paused the show and unexpectedly introduced Jean, adding, “And I love her very much.” He continued briefly playing the instrumentals of the song, but suddenly the music cut out as he showed Jean a ring and asked her to marry him.
In what must be one of the shortest engagements ever, the pair were pretty much immediately married during the show’s encore in a ceremony officiated by Third Man Records co-founder Ben Blackwell. A phone video of the concert shows White’s proposal and a bit of the raucous speech Blackwell gave. Jean’s father even took the stage in the impromptu wedding.
White has been married twice in the past: first to his former White Stripes bandmate Meg White from 1996-2000, and next to model Karen Elson from 2005-2013. This is Jean’s first marriage. She first gained prominence as the lead vocalist and guitarist of The Black Belles and signed with White’s label Third Man Records in 2011. The band disbanded a year later but Jean remained with the label and has had a successful solo career as well.
That very same day, White was also celebrating the release of his newest studio album, Fear Of The Dawn. It’s his first release since 2018’s Boarding House Reach and has gotten positive reviews.
