Jack Black’s Tenacious D Tour Halted After Band Member’s Controversial Joke About Assassination Attempt On Former President

Tenacious D’s Kyle Gass faced severe backlash after making a controversial joke about the recent assassination attempt on the former president during a concert in Sydney, Australia.

The incident occurred on Sunday at the ICC Sydney Theatre, where the comedy rock duo was performing. As Jack Black presented a birthday cake to Gass, who turned 64 that day, Gass responded to Black’s request to “make a wish” with the comment, “Don’t miss Trump next time.” The remark came just a day after the former president was shot in the ear at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Following widespread criticism, Black issued a statement expressing his shock at his bandmate’s comment and announcing the cancellation of the remainder of their Spicy Meatball Tour.

“I was blindsided by Kyle’s remark and want to make it clear that I do not condone hate speech or political violence in any form,” Black said. He added that all future creative plans for Tenacious D are now on hold.

Gass took to Instagram to apologize for his impromptu remark, calling it “highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake.” He emphasized that he does not condone violence and expressed regret for his “severe lack of judgment.”

The fallout from the incident extended beyond social media, with Australian Senator Ralph Babet, a member of the right-wing United Australia Party, calling for both band members to be “deported immediately.” Babet condemned the comment as wishing for the assassination of Donald Trump.

Initially, Tenacious D postponed only their July 16 show in Newcastle, Australia. Frontier Touring, the company producing the tour, announced the postponement on Instagram, asking ticket holders to retain their tickets pending further information.
