J.K. Rowling appears to be having as difficult of a time saying goodbye to the wizarding world she created as her fans, as she’s penned "History of the Quidditch World Cup," which will appear exclusively on the Pottermore website.

J.K. Rowling Releases 'History of the Quidditch World Cup'

Rowling recently took some time to write an abbreviated history of the championship of the most beloved game in the wizarding world. She’s releasing the story in two parts on Pottermore. The first part appeared on the Harry Potter site today, Friday, March 14. The second part is scheduled to launch on the site next Friday, March 21.

Included in the first 2,400-word first part, is an introduction to "History of the Quidditch World Cup," which includes an explanation of how rules are drawn up by the International Confederation of Wizards Quidditch Committee.

“The ICWQC has the unlucky job of regulating this contentions and anarchic competition,” reads part of the introduction. “The rulebook concerning both on-and off-pitch magic is alleged to stretch to nineteen volumes and to include such rules as ‘no dragon is to be introduced into the stadium for any purpose including, but not limited to, team mascot, coach or cup warmer’ and ‘modification of any part of the referee’s body, whether or not he or she has requested such modification, will lead to a lifetime ban from the tournament and possibly imprisonment.”

The history also includes insight into the “Statute of Secrecy” regarding the World Cup, the “Infamous Tournaments" – including the “Attack of the Killer Forest,” “The Tournament that Nobody Remembers” and the “Reappearance of the Dark Mark.”

Part two promises a deeper look into the eccentricities of the Qudditch World Cup's rules and regulations, perhaps akin to the idiosyncratic dragon rule introduced in part one.

Pottermore is J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter website on which fans of the series can purchase the books and movies, as well as enjoy interactive experiences, including a chance to compete for the House Cup. "History of the Quidditch World Cup" is one of the author’s longest pieces of original content – save the full-length novels – that she’s posted to the popular site frequented by avid fans.
