J.K. Rowling Responds To Haters On Twitter Over ‘Harry Potter’ Book Burnings
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has been a vocal opponent of Donald Trump throughout his campaign and has voiced her thoughts on Twitter.
J.K. ROWLING RESPONDS TO HATERS ON TWITTER WITH STYLE
Recently some former Rowling fans have tweeted at the author, saying they are “disgusted” by her and “will now burn your books and movies too.” Rowling, who has made a new name for herself as a genius Twitter user, had the perfect responses.
“Well, the fumes from the DVDs might be toxic and I’ve still got your money, so by all means borrow my lighter,” the author wrote. Another user said, “I just burned all my Harry Potter books after being a fan for 17 years. The Phils. Stone was one of the first books I EVER read. I’m upset it has to be that way.. You embarrassed me, disgusted me, and I will never read your work again #ThankyouFor17Years.”
Again, Rowling appeared unfazed at losing a fan or two. “Guess it’s true what they say: you can lead a girl to books about the rise and fall of an autocrat, but you still can’t make her think.”
The Harry Potter series has come back into the public eye since the rise of Trump, with many comparing him and his actions to the villain of the series, Voldemort.
Later Rowling tweeted again, though this time not in response to anyone in particular. “Actually, we’re thinking of selling them in pairs in the future; a ‘read one, burn one’ deal for those who like the magic, but not the morals,” she wrote, adding some humor for fans, and a jab for critics.
Interestingly, Rowling did not directly reply to the haters, but instead posted screenshots of the tweets with the user’s handles grayed out. It seems even Rowling didn’t want to subject them to the wrath of her loyal followers and potential backlash of theirs.
