J.K. Rowling, the writer behind the iconic Harry Potter series, has said that she’s likely done with Harry Potter following the release of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child hit bookshelves this weekend, after topping the 2016 pre-order charts on Amazon, and becoming the top pre-ordered book at Barnes & Noble since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows in 2007. Enthusiasm for Harry Potter and the wizarding world that Rowling created is as present as ever. But Rowling seems to be content to let Cursed Child be the last of Harry Potter’s story.
“He goes on a very big journey during these two plays and then, yeah, I think we’re done,” Rowling told Reuters, referring to the stage production written by playwright Jack Thorne with Rowling’s assistance. “This is the next generation, you know. So I’m thrilled to see it realized so beautifully but, no, Harry is done now.”
Cursed Child delves into not only the continuing stories of Harry, Ron and Hermione, but also with their children, specifically Harry and Ginny’s son Albus Severus Potter.
“[The play] chimed perfectly with the material I had about the next generation and I could see it would work perfectly,” said Rowling. “So I never wanted to write another novel, but this will give the fans something special.”
Cursed Child takes place 19 years after the Battle of Hogwarts, where Voldemort was finished once and for all. Harry, who works at the Ministry of Magic, is now a father to three children, who he’s welcomed with wife Ginny Weasley.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts 1 & 2, the script for the stage play, went on sale Sunday at midnight.
