Ivanka Trump’s Inauguration Look By Oscar De La Renta Sparks Boycott Calls: ‘Unsubscribe’
Oscar de la Renta is facing backlash after dressing Ivanka Trump for an inaugural dinner ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony on Jan. 20.
The fashion house shared images of Ivanka, 43, wearing a “custom off-shoulder crystal and pearl floral-embroidered empire waist gown with silver stole,” prompting outrage from some followers on social media.
Many fashion fans took to Instagram to express their disappointment, with some vowing to boycott the brand.
“Oh, okay, so we’re done with ODLR,” one commenter wrote, while another added, “ODLR sold their soul. Unsubscribe.”
Others called the decision to dress Ivanka “disgraceful” and “unforgivable,” with one user stating, “Unfollow after maybe 8 to 10 years. Loved your content but this is unacceptable. Bye.”
Earlier, Ivanka attended a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery wearing a camel-colored ensemble with floral embellishments, brown boots, and matching gloves, all designed by the fashion house. The outfit also drew criticism, with comments such as, “Yikes. You’re dressing all the MAGA folks,” and “We are not gonna be normalizing ANY OF THIS. UNFOLLOWED.”
The backlash didn’t stop with Ivanka, as Oscar de la Renta also designed a custom noir velvet gown with asymmetric floral accents for Usha Vance, wife of incoming Vice President JD Vance at the Vice President’s Dinner.
Melania Trump, the First Lady once again, opted for a different designer, wearing a buttoned navy blue overcoat layered over an ivory neckline by Adam Lippes. Lippes, who previously served as a creative director at Oscar de la Renta from 1996 to 2003, designed the ensemble, which she paired with an elongated top hat by Eric Javits.
Despite the controversy, Oscar de la Renta has not responded to the backlash.
