There has been speculation on if Ivanka Trump will take on traditional First Lady roles for her father’s presidential term.
Trump herself has said that such speculation is ludicrous and that she will be doing no such thing, even as her stepmother Melania Trump delays moving to Washington, D.C. until mid-2017. “There is one First Lady and she’ll do remarkable things,” Ivanka said in an interview. Donald Trump has similarly said that the rumor is “an inappropriate observation.”
Ivanka, meanwhile, has resigned from both her vice president position at the Trump Organization as well as her own self-name lifestyle brand. Her husband Jared Kushner will hold a formal, though possibly unpaid, advisor position to the president. Ivanka’s new role has yet to be announced.
“It’s emotional,” she said. “I’m stepping away from my business… My father will be President, and hopefully, I can be there to support him and to support those causes I’ve cared about my whole professional career.”
Melania plans to stay in New York City with Barron Trump, her 10-year-old son with Donald, until he finishes this school year. Donald Trump, Jr. and Eric Trump will take over the daily responsibilities of the Trump companies. “My father has the biggest responsibility of any person, arguably, on the planet, and that’s to run the United States of America,” Eric told ABC News. “His focus is going to be running this country.”
