Ivanka Trump is being sued by an Italian shoe company that claims her fashion line is selling heels that are an imitation of one of their designs, according to reports on Wednesday.
The suit was filed against Ivanka on Tuesday by a company Aquazzura — at a federal court in New York. The lawsuit also names Marc Fisher Holdings, which produces Ivanka’s shoe line.
Aquazzura is claiming infringement over one specific shoe and wants a jury trial.
“One of the most disturbing things in the fashion industry is when someone blatantly steals your copyright designs and doesn’t care,” the company said in a post on Instagram in March. “You should know better. Shame on you @ivankatrump! Imitation is NOT the most sincere form of flattery.”
Marc Fisher CFO Matthew Burris described the case as “a baseless lawsuit aimed at generating publicity.”
“The shoe in question is representative of a trending fashion style,” Burris insisted, adding that the shoe isn’t subject to intellectual property law protection.
The lawsuit includes side-by-side pictures of Aquazzura shoes in comparison with those from the Ivanka Trump Collection — to determine likeness.
