Ivanka Trump recently purchased an item of jewelry from Lady Grey’s online shop – but her money won’t be going to the company.
Lady Grey – run by Jill Martinelli and Sabine Le Guyader – recently received an online order placed by Ivanka. Ivanka has been front and center during her father Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign, from the Republican primary and now into the general election. The business-oriented mother-of-three even delivered the speech that introduced Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention last month.
Martinelli and Le Guyader are opposed to Trump’s candidacy and felt that accepting money from his daughter and vocal surrogate was morally compromising. So, instead of keeping the money at Lady Grey, Martinelli and Le Guyader are donating it to the American Immigration Council, Everytown for Gun Safety – and Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
On Instagram, Martinelli and Le Guyader took to the Lady Grey page to share a note that they had sent to Ivanka to inform her of their decision to donate the money she had paid for the brand’s Helix Ear Cuff. “Dear @ivankatrump, #thanksbutnothanks #payitFORWARD,” they captioned the snap.
“While we were flattered to receive an order from Ivanka Trump, our social and political views couldn’t be further from those of the Trump campaign,” Martinelli explained to the cut. “When we received her order, we instantly felt compelled to take the money and donate it to a few organizations that were more aligned with our ideals.”
Ivanka Trump has not commented on the Lady Grey note.
