Is Tom Cruise Filming A Cameo For 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

Tom Cruise is rumored to be signing on for a cameo appearance in the J.J. Abrams directed Star Wars: Episode VII.

Tom Cruise Joining 'Star Wars' Cast?

Cruise, who recruited Abrams to direct 2006’s Mission: Impossible III, apparently met up with the director in London last weekend, according to reports.

“Tom has been in London for over a week and met up with J.J. and some other people from Star Wars at the weekend,” an insider told The Sun. “On Saturday evening five of them met up for dinner and drinks at the Belgravia Hotel. J.J. loves working with Tom whenever he gets the chance.”

The source added, “Losing Harrison [Ford] is going to set things back a little scheduling wise and there's some time to play around with.”

Harrison Ford Injury

Ford was flown by helicopter to a local hospital from the Star Wars set at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire on June 12. Initial reports claimed that the actor had injured his ankle while filming scenes as Han Solo, but it was later revealed Ford broke his leg in the accident. The 71-year-old actor had to undergo surgery for the injury and now faces months of rehab.

Though Ford’s publicist has said, “He’s doing well and looks forward to returning to work,” there has been speculation that the actor might not return to the film at all. Considering that when Ford is able to return to work in a couple of months he’ll only be able to be filmed from the waste up, a rewrite could be in the works to minimize Han Solo’s screentime.

Disney and Lucasfilms are adamant that Star Wars: Episode VII production continues as close to schedule as possible so that the film can hit theaters on its planned December 18, 2015 release date. Cutting Ford’s role in the film to make that deadline could prove costly with fan approval, as the return of Ford along with Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) has been much anticipated.

Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels, and Kenny Baker round out the original Star Wars stars reprising their iconic roles. Newcomers to the franchise include Lupita Nyong’o, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Domhall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie and John Boyega.
