One Direction’s hiatus might turn into a full-fledged breakup for the popular British boyband.
A few months ago, One Direction singers Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Liam Payne announced that they would be taking an extended hiatus. All of the young men, who were discovered on X-Factor U.K., rushed to reassure fans that they would reunite to make new music in the future. Now, however, reports are saying that they are all done with One Direction.
The group has opted “not to renew their recording contract,” a sourced told Us Weekly, adding, “The 1D thing just ran its course. They’ll remain friends, but they are exhausted and want solo careers.”
According to the supposed insider, not all of the One Direction members plan to pursue solo singing careers.
“Liam is really interested in songwriting and production,” a source told Us. “Harry is launching a career in acting and singing.”
Since the rumors of a split started to spread, a rep for One Direction has refuted them as baseless to the Evening Standard.
This is not the first time that One Direction has had to shut down speculation that the band’s hiatus is really a breakup. Back in November, it was Horan who came out to deny it.
“We’re not breaking up,” Horan told Entertainment Tonight. “We’re literally taking time out to see our friends and see our family and reflect on what we’ve done over the last few years.”
