iPhone 8 Preview: Here’s What’s Know So Far [PHOTOS]

Apple’s iPhone 8 currently has an air of mystery surrounding it. Its appearance is a mystery, its exact specs are unknown, and we don’t even know if Apple will retain the same naming conventions or will instead opt for something else, akin to how the iPad Air 2 was succeeded by the iPad. However, some details and alleged leaked documents have emerged, giving a hint as to what to expect.

APPLE iPHONE 8 PREVIEW

Incidentally, the first iPhone launched a decade ago, meaning the eighth iterative installment in the line will celebrate that milestone. While Apple decided against debuting their upcoming smartphone at the recently concluded WWDC, as they habitually prefer to do so in the fall, they did address their new operating system, Apple iOS 11.

While not directly confirmed to power the iPhone 8, iOS 11 will likely be its operating system. With it, Apple’s handy guide Siri will likely enjoy a boost in her cognitive functions. AR software will probably progress as well, along with the functionality of the smartphone’s App Store, Control Center and lock screens.

The exact timeframe for a launch is currently unknown, although one alleged scenario has said Apple will reveal it in September, and launch in October or November. Other supposed schedules mention a September launch for Apple’s S series while the iPhone 8 will come later.

Furthermore, Apple is reportedly eyeing an OLED display for an upcoming iPhone model. Slashleaks also reports how Ion-X glass might be used to compose the smartphone’s display. Several sources, including Bloomberg, attest to how Apple’s workshopping a phone with a display that “covers almost the entire front of the device.”

Other sources made claims regarding other facets of the phone’s features. Identification via touch and facial recognition have been mentioned, as has an “enhanced receiver.” Apple may play around with its memory tiers, dropping the 32GB option for 64GB.

Apple’s iPhone 8 is still very much a question mark, but we do have a vague outline portraying what it may become. Regardless, Apple will showcase the iPhone when it’s ready and, considering the anniversary, it has a proud legacy to build from.
