iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus & iPhone X: What Can Their New Cameras Do?

Apple’s iPhone X was the centerpiece of their September 2017 keynote, although that’s not to undermine the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus. All of them are slated to provide buyers with more advanced cameras than any of their predecessors, too. Here’s a comparison between their respective cameras.

In terms of their front cameras, both iterations of the iPhone 8 are identical. They offer the standard FaceTime HD capacity, and they can shoot 7MP photographs and record video in 1080p HD.

Their main cameras are where the divergences lie. An iPhone 8 is built with a 12MP camera, whereas the Plus has two; one is a wide-angle camera, while the other is telephoto. Fortunately, both iPhone 8s provide optical image stabilization. Also, the 8 and 8 Plus can record video in 4K at 24 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps.

Zooming capabilities are improved on the Plus; when recording, the Plus can zoom in six times over the standard 8’s three times, and the gap is respectively ten times and five times when taking pictures. Moreover, the smaller iPhone 8 is limited to digital zooming while the Plus can also zoom optically.

Plus phones are also gifted with its Portrait Lighting feature. While currently in beta, it can stimulate the lighting in your self-portraits.

Ultimately, if you aren’t leaning towards the iPhone X thus far, it might be worth it to purchase the iPhone 8 Plus over the iPhone 8 for its superior capabilities.

Generally, the iPhone X’s camera offers all of the tools the iPhone 8 Plus’s has. The telephoto lens on the X is mildly wider than that of the Plus, however. X also has dual optical image stabilization, making its photos less blurry.

Additionally, Portrait Mode is also achievable with the X’s front cameras, unlike the 8’s or 8 Plus’s, giving your selfies a greater air of beauty. Animojis can also add a humorous vide to your self-portraits, and the facial recognition in the X is one of its big selling points.
