Apple has three new smartphone models in the works including the iPhone 5S, a low-budget iPhone and the iPhone 6, that would all be released prior to next Christmas.

Despite the fact that Apple has been releasing only one version of its smartphone per year and that the iPhone 5 only hit shelves this past September, the company is making a big push with three new models this year, according to the China Times. The urgency in releasing the new models could have something to do with the downturn Apple stocks have taken, the high demand for a less expensive version of their product and also the uptick in smartphone buyers who want a bigger screen, as seen on the Samsung Galaxy.

The iPhone 5S could be available for purchase as soon as June of this year, as could the more "affordable" iPhone. As for that latter model, "Similar to the iPad mini, we expect a concentrated low-cost iPhone rather than a 'cheap' one," said Jeffries analyst Peter Misek. "We believe a new low-cost iPhone would increase Apple's share, decrease [gross margins], but have little impact on [earnings per share]." The iPhone 5S will have more storage space, an 8-megapixel camera and will be available in the rainbow of colors offered for Apple's iTouch, according to Misek.

It won't be until the release of the iPhone 6 that those craving a bigger screen will get their wish. The final version of the iPhone to be released in 2013 will feature a 4.8 inch screen compared with the 4 inch screen on the current model. It will also offer the capabilities of a 12-pixel camera, according to reports. — Chelsea Regan
