Amy Schumer, the stand-up comic who placed fourth in the fifth season of Last Comic Standing, debuted her first TV series, Inside Amy Schumer, on Tuesday night on Comedy Central.
Inside Amy Schumer is a mix of the comedian's stand-up routines, scripted sketches and street interviews with random strangers – all of which push the boundaries on taboo topics like sex and race. Schumer, who has made a name for herself on the Comedy Central Roast scene, delivers on the promises of laugh-out-loud TV.
Although some may find Schumers stand-up segments too much like the Chelsea Handler school of perpetually joking about one's promiscuity, her comedic timing is impeccable even in her most derivative cracks. Furthermore, the scripted sketches, which feature comedians like Michael Showalter and actors such as Homeland's Marc Menchaca, are both well-written and well-performed.
The series was developed by both Schumer and Jessi Klein. Klein also serves as the head writer alongside Tig Notaro, Kurt Metzger, Kyle Dunnigan and Gabe Liedman. Directors include Neal Brennan, Steven Tsuchida and John Lee.
Check out a clip from the episode where Schumer takes her friends to O'Nutters, a Hooter's for straight women and gay men where the men walk around in snug green wrestling singlets.
