After veteran golfer Paul Azinger‘s unexpected departure from NBC Sports, influencer Paige Spiranac has expressed her interest in replacing him as the lead golf analyst.
Azinger’s manager announced that NBC has chose not to renew his contract when his current deal expires last week.
Although Azinger had been with the network for five years, his commentary has faced criticism recently.
While it remains unclear who will fill the void left by Azinger, Spiranac has emerged as a potential candidate. In response to social media calls for her to join NBC, Spiranac quoted a post that announced Azinger’s departure and stated, “Fine, I’ll step in.”
When a fan asked her about the rumors centered around the potential involvement with NBC, Spiranac replied, “I’m a woman of the people, and the people want me to replace Paul Azinger. You can’t deny I’d bring two big attributes to the table: my personality and golf knowledge, of course.”
Spiranac, known for her racy golf-related posts on social media, has amassed nearly four million followers on Instagram and 948,000 on X.
Her recent viral post that compared her performance while she wore different outfits garnered attention, and she explained that her background as a former gymnast influenced her clothing choices when transitioning to golf due to financial constraints.
NBC thanked Azinger for his last five years in a statement, “His insights, his work ethic and relationships in the golf industry are well known, and we appreciate what he brought to our team. We wish Paul the best in his future endeavors.”
Spiranac served as a Super Bowl correspondent for Inside Edition last February. In an interview with The New York Post in March, she said, “It was interesting because I have never done that before, and I had no training there, but they were so great and they helped me along, every single step. I think my heart lies with digital content and that’s what I think I do best and what I enjoy most.”
