A 33-year-old man from Indiana was charged with stalking and intimidation after officials said he threatened to commit violence after not being able to meet his “soulmate” Taylor Swift.
LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office records reveal that Mitchell Taebel was arrested based on threats that began in March when Swift’s Eras Tour began in Glendale, Arizona. A document from the newspaper The Times of Northwest Indiana read, “On March 29, 2023, Taebel posted a voice message to his Instagram account that he sent to [Swift’s] official Instagram account stating that he would happily wear a bomb if he cannot be with his soul mate.”
The next day, Taebel sent a message to Swift’s father, declaring himself Swift’s soulmate.
On April 5, he sent a picture to the singer’s Instagram of someone firing a handgun at a gun range. Taebel then said he would “destroy” Swift and her dancers if they gave a “sexual performance” of the song “Vigilante S—” at a concert.

On May 5, Taebel showed up at a group of condominiums in Nashville where Swift has a residence, claiming he was a reporter. He was stopped in the lobby by security but fled before police arrived. Security later saw Taebel at Nissan Stadium and escorted him away and banned him from the venue.
Taebel was booked into LaPorte County Jail on June 2 and remains there now with a bond of $15,000. He is scheduled to make an appearance in court on July 27 for a hearing.
Swift is still on her Eras Tour with upcoming shows on Friday and Saturday at Ford Field in Detroit.
