Idris Elba could be the next British actor tapped to play James Bond, which would make him the first black actor to land the coveted role.

Idris Elba James Bond

New Sony leaks reveal that if embattled producer Amy Pascal has her way, Elba will be the next James Bond. “Idris should be the next bond,” Pascal wrote in an email to Elizabeth Cantillon, the former executive vice president of production for Columbia Pictures, back in January 2014.

Another person who’d like to see Elba take on the part of 007 is Jamie Foxx – who recently took on the traditionally white role of Mr. Warbucks in the Annie remake currently in theaters. “I ran into Idris and I said, ‘You know you’re the mother——’ James Bond, right?’” Fox told The Daily Beast earlier this year. Elba, who stars on the BBC’s Luther, apparently liked the idea of picking up the mantle.

As for Daniel Craig, who followed the likes of Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery, he’s openly stated that he’s more than ready to vacate the franchise role. “I’ve been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it,” Craig told Rolling Stone in 2012. But they won’t let me go, and I’ve agreed to do a couple more, but let’s see how this one does, because business is business and if the shit goes down, I’ve got a contract that somebody will happily wipe their ass with.”

Craig is currently filming the latest Bond film, Spectre. The film is slated to hit theaters sometime in 2015.
