Ian Somerhalder, 33, the current star of the CW's The Vampire Diaries and the former Lost heartthrob, proved that he had more on his mind than environmental conservation at Saturday night's 2012 Environmental Media Awards when he opened up about the buzz of the month — the possibility he might be cast as Christian Grey in the highly anticipated movie version of E. L. James' Fifty Shades of Grey.

Of course, Somerhalder couldn't reveal the extent of his involvement, if any, with the upcoming movie, but he did open up about his thoughts on the book and how it will be adapted, and his responses seemed just diplomatic enough to suggest that he might be holding out for something.

"I think that's going to be a very interesting story to tell," he told E! Online. "It seems like whoever the guy — whomever plays that role, it's going to be a very interesting rehearsal time," he said facetiously. Even "the audition process," Somerhalder acknowledged, "is gonna be interesting."

When asked, "Who would be your Anastasia?" Somerhalder hesitated. "My Anastasia?" he questioned, seeming mildly uncomfortable. "I mean, I don't know. That's crazy." Recovering, he then said, "You know, there are some really phenomenal leading ladies in this town. There's too many to name."

"I've started to read the book," Somerhalder also cryptically stated. "I hear it, ya know, gets a little smoother after the first one. But, you know, I get it," he said, smiling slightly. "I get it. I get why this has taken off the way it has."

But when Somerhalder is in public, how does he keep his Fifty Shades of Grey reading material a secret? "It's on my iPad. That way no one knows." That's right, Ian — no one knows.
