Ian McShane, the Emmy-winning British actor, will be the latest to join the cast of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
McShane will make his debut on Game of Thrones sometime in the medieval fantasy series’ sixth season, according to Entertainment Weekly. Neither McShane nor HBO has revealed who he will play in the universe created by George R. R. Martin. It’s even possible that McShane will play a character that Martin has yet to introduce, as the TV series has progressed further along than the books in the author’s Song of Ice and Fire series.
At this point in time it’s not known if McShane’s character will be a man of Westeros or from one of the lands across the Narrow Sea. However, it has been revealed that his character will be of vital importance despite relatively small screen-time.
McShane previously starred on HBO series Deadwood and has appeared in a number of other TV shows, including Dallas, Lovejoy, Kings, American Horror Story and Ray Donovan. On the big screen, McShane acted in Nine Lives, Scoop, We Are Marshall, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Snow White and the Huntsman, Hercules, John Wick and more.
Game of Thrones has already started production on its sixth season, which will premiere on HBO in the spring. HBO hopes to produce at least eight seasons of the series and would be open to a prequel series.
