Hyperloop One, a leading startup working to revolutionize transportation, has successfully completed a full scale test.
First outlined by Elon Musk in 2013, the system would be able to carry travelers from L.A. to San Francisco in under 30 minutes. It would place passengers in a module in a tube, and the vacuum pressure would thrust the vehicle up to 750 miles per hour.
The test, dubbed its “Kitty Hawk moment,” had the propulsion system reach 70 mph, and hit almost 2 Gs of acceleration. This was the first successful test run of the system. The company released the video footage of the moment, which is over seven minutes long, despite the actual test lasting just 5.3 seconds.
“By achieving full vacuum, we essentially invented our own sky in a tube, as if you’re flying at 200,000 feet in the air,” said Hyperloop One co-founder Shervin Pishevar. “For the first time in over 100 years, a new mode of transportation has been introduced.”
