Hulk Hogan Celebrates Gawker’s Demise Following Lawsuit

Gawker Media announced Thursday that Gawker.com would be shutting down after 14 years on the web – and Hulk Hogan couldn’t feel more vindicated.

Hulk Hogan Celebrates End Of Gawker

After news broke that Gawker.com would be officially coming to an end, Hogan took to Twitter to show his glee. “They messed with the wrong guy brother HH,” the former WWE star tweeted.

Hogan – with the help of Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel‘s deep pockets – pursued a lawsuit against Gawker and its founder Nick Denton that put the media company into bankruptcy. He had won a $140 million judgment in the invasion-of-privacy case that claimed that Gawker had violated Hogan’s privacy for publishing a clip from a sex tape of him with Heather Clem, and other footage in which Hogan was heard saying the n-word.

Incidentally, Thiel also had a significant amount of animosity toward’s Denton’s site. Back in 2007, Gawker published a report that outed Thiel as gay. Thiel, in turn, compared websites like Gawker to Al Qaeda and called their reports “psychological terrorism.”

While Gawker.com will soon be no more, Gawker Media’s six other websites, including Jezebel and Gizmodo, have been purchased by Univision and will continue to operate.
