Hugh Jackman posted a video on Wednesday, giving a peek of his workout regime for his roll as Wolverine.
The upcoming film, yet to be titled, will be the last time Jackman plays the part.
The intense physical commitment needed to playing Wolverine is one of the reasons Jackman is retiring from the role, but he also just feels like the timing is right.
“It just felt like it was the right time to do it,” Jackman said on an episode of Dr. Oz in 2015. “And let’s be honest, 17 years. I never thought in a million years it would last, so I’m so grateful to the fans for the opportunity of playing it.”
Jackman first playing wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, which sparked the entire X-Men film franchise. Jackman returned to the role for X2: X-Men United in 2003 and X-Men: The Last Stand in 2006. In 2009, Jackman starred in the first Wolverine solo movie, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. He then made a cameo appearance in the 2011 prequel X-Men: First Class and starred again in the second Wolverine solo movie, The Wolverine, in 2013. Jackman and the rest of the original X-Men trilogy cast returned for X-Men: Days of Future Past in 2014, and he had a small role in this year’s X-Men: Apocalypse.
Fox hasn’t released much official information about the latest movie, scheduled for release in 2017. The film’s rumored title is Wolverine: Weapon X, and it is said to be a loose adaptation of the 2008-2009 comic book story “Old Man Logan,” reports ComicBook.com. Patrick Stewart will reprise his role as Professor X in the movie, and the film is also rumored to introduce Wolverine’s clone, X-23. Mr. Sinister is rumored to be the film’s villain.
