Huawei’s New Honor V8: A Cheaper Version Of The P9
Huawei, the Chinese multinational company and largest producer of telecommunications equipment and services, just released their latest dual-camera smartphone and it “looks like an alien doubling as a phone.”
Huawei’s New Honor V8
Digital Trends suggests the Honor V8 is pretty much identical to the Huawei P9 smartphone except for two important differences. It’s cheaper and does not come with any Leica branding. “In other words, Leica had no input in the software, tuning, and lens development, so while the Honor V8 will likely get you great shots, they might not be as impressive as the ones taken with the P9,” the tech review site said.
Android Police was a little less forgiving. “Except for being ever so slightly slower, bulkier, and cheaper with the glass back, these two phones are almost identical,” the site said.
The Honor V8 comes with a 5.2-inch 1080p IPS display with an 8MP selfie shooter. The two 12-megapixel cameras feature laser autofocus and a f/2.2 aperture. It’s powered up with Huawei’s own chipset Kirin 950. There’s also a fingerprint sensor on the back for increased security. One downside is the actual construction of the thing. It’s got a glass front and back with a metal frame, but at 30% less than the P9, it could be a worthwhile buy.
