Shock jock Howard Stern, 57, has a new surprise in store for his fans — he just signed on to be a new judge on NBC's summer reality competition, America's Got Talent.
It's true. Stern, who revealed his interest in helming the show after Piers Morgan announced that he would be leaving to focus on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight, told his Thursday morning SiriusXM Satellite listeners that he had been offered the job and was signing the contract right then and there on his radio show. He is not one for making light of the situation, however. "I take judging very seriously," he assured. "In order to up my credibility, I will wear a suit."
The news has been confirmed by NBC. "Howard Stern's larger-than-life personality will bring a thrilling new dynamic to America's Got Talent starting this summer," said Paul Telegdy, president of alternative and late night programming at NBC. "He's a proven innovator and his track record in broadcasting is truly remarkable. Howard is very passionate about this show and is fully committed to its future success."
And that's not all. America's Got Talent, which has previously been based in Los Angeles, will switch coasts, moving to New York to accommodate Stern, who will also continue to host his radio show from the Big Apple.
When rumors started flying that Stern might take the open position, the Parents Television Council voiced their disapproval, arguing that it was not appropriate for Stern to appear on a popular family show.
America's Got Talent will return to NBC this summer.
