‘How I Met Your Mother’ Recap: Barney Confronts Ted About Meeting Robin At The Carousel

How I Met Your Mother continued in its lead up to Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Robin’s wedding in “Last Time In New York,” showing the gang getting ready for the nuptials with just 52 hours remaining.

The soon-to-be-married Barney and Robin (Cobie Smulders), fearing that the arrival of their family members will throw a wrench in their sex life, decide to try to have sex in random places before they settle into the hotel. Unfortunately, the task proves harder than either had imagined, but Barney’s brother James (Wayne Brady) comes to the rescue to distract the families while the two sneak off to the computer room.

Marshall (Jason Segel) and the baby are still travelling via 18-wheeler with Daphne (Sherri Shepherd) to Farhampton. The lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan struggles when they pass through rival Packer country in Wisconsin. Lily (Alyson Hannigan), anxiously waiting to reunite with her husband and son, downs booze uninhibitedly while helping Ted (Josh Radnor) get through his list of things to do before he abandons New York City for a new life in Chicago.

Ted’s list: Grab a drink with his favorite students. Watch one last sunset over the Hudson. Fix the graffiti on 96th and Amsterdam from “Your a penis” to “You’re a penis.” Buy the whole bar a round of drinks, (on a Tuesday morning, and no doubles for anyone). Come clean about April 26 (Ted sliced Lily’s favorite dress in half during a sword fight with Marshall.)

Punishing both Ted and Marshall, Lily makes Ted wear a old school bathing suit reminiscent of Where’s Waldo and forced Marshall to don Green Bay Packers apparel, complete with a cheesehead. Lily, however, fails to mention that she and Robin also had a sword fight that day, which resulted in the breaking of a bottle of 30-year-old scotch Ted, Marshall and Barney were saving. The women replaced it with gin, ketchup, hand sanitizer and some chocolate syrup for color.

When Robin gets to the computer room, she finds Ted and Lily working on the list. Lily admits she’s trying to help Ted cope, but that she knows he needs to talk to Barney before he goes off to Chicago. Ted mans up and goes to see Barney, who’s not too keen to be chummy with his old pal. "I saw Robin with you at the carousel,” he reveals.

How I Met Your Mother will return with the fourth episode of it’s 10th and final season on Monday, Oct. 7 at 9/8c.
