‘House Of Cards’ Robin Wright Opens Up For First Time About Kevin Spacey Relationship & Allegations [VIDEO]

House of Cards actress Robin Wright is opening up about Kevin Spacey‘s sexual misconduct allegations.

In a Today show interview that was aired on Monday, Wright said the cast and crew were “surprised” and “ultimately saddened” by the allegations that followed after Anthony Rapp‘s initial claims, indicating Spacey hit on him as a 26-year-old man when Rapp was 14.

The actress added that everyone was “thankful” to be able to continue the final season of House of Cards without Spacey, who was fired and written out of the series.

Wright didn’t consider herself a friend of Spacey’s but said he always treated her respectfully.

“We were co-workers, really. We weren’t—we never socialized outside of work,” she said. “…He was so great with me. He was never disrespectful to me. So, that’s my personal experience. That’s the only thing I feel that I have the right to talk about.”

Following Rapp’s accusations that Spacey had tried to seduce the minor by laying on top of him in a bed after a party, Spacey released an apology and confession.

“I’m beyond horrified to hear his story. I honestly do not remember the encounter as it would have been over 30 years ago. But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.” He continued, “This story has encouraged me to address other things about my life. I know that there are stories out there about me and that some have been fueled by the fact that I have been so protective of my privacy. As those closest to me know, in my life I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic encounters with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man. I want to deal with this honestly and openly and that starts with examining my own behavior.”

Wright was unsure how to remark on Spacey’s dismissal from House of Cards.

“I don’t know how to comment on that,” she said, “but I think at that time, the shock was so intense all over the nation—for many reasons, many stories, many people—I think everybody felt it was respectful to back off.”

The actress also said she has not been in contact with Spacey since he was fired from the show, reiterating they weren’t more than friendly colleagues.

Wright felt the bigger issue is sexual misconduct in the workplace, which has been spotlighted this past year with the #MeToo movement.

“This is a bigger, broader issue, I think, which is seduction. I don’t care who you are. It’s about power. And once you overpower someone, that person then becomes vulnerable,” she said. “This last year, I think, has shined a light, in a way, to allow us to start a new conversation. So, we just need to shift the paradigm.”
