House Floor Stenographer Dianne Reidy Removed From Chamber After Outburst During Vote

Dianne Reidy, the longtime stenographer on the House floor during Wednesday night’s vote on the debt ceiling and funding of the federal government, had to be hauled out of the chamber after causing a scene.

Reidy, who was identified by witnesses on the floor, took hold of the microphone and began yelling as lawmakers were casting their votes. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), who was presiding over the vote, began pounding the gavel during the disruption to regain order.

After Ros-Lehtinen’s futile attempts to quiet the House floor, Reidy was removed by staffers and brought to a nearby elevator. As she was taken away, she continued to yell. Throughout her display, she said: “He will not be mocked! This is not one nation under God. It never was. The greatest deception here is this is not one nation under god! It never was. Had it been, it would not have been! The Constitution would not have been written by Freemasons! You cannot serve two masters! You cannot serve two masters! Praise be to God, Lord Jesus Christ.”

Following the incident, Reidy was brought to a local hospital, U.S. Capitol Police revealed.

On Wednesday night, Congress approved a bill to end the government shutdown and to resume funding the federal government through Jan. 17. Congress also voted to raise the debt ceiling until Feb. 7.
