As 120 victims prepare to sue Sean Combs for sexual assault, a hotline set up for any other victims or individuals with information regarding the crimes received over 12,000 calls within 24 hours.
The hotline was publicized by Texas lawyer Tony Buzbee earlier this week, who encouraged people to call with any information about Combs’ crimes.
Combs was arrested in Manhattan last month on federal charges of sex trafficking and battery. The federal indictment unsealed last month detailed how Combs would drug and force women to have sex with male prostitutes in violent “freak-offs” recorded against their will.
On Wednesday, Buzbee told Law&Crime that since the press conference the day before, “We’ve had 12,000 calls in about 24 hours.”
He continued, “So, our herculean test is to try and sift through every one of these calls and make sure that we’re identifying those who are victims and those who are witnesses and collect evidence. When I made the announcement that I was going to pursue these cases, the floodgates really opened – the volume of calls has been overwhelming and it’s been kind of shocking.”
Buzbee claimed to have “100 people working on this task,” and expects to start to file civil cases within the month.
The surge in responses to the hotline came after new information was released about the 120 victims already suing Combs – that victims were split evenly between gender, 25 of which were minors, the youngest being nine at the time of the molestation. The majority of victims were taken advantage of when Diddy took them under his wing with promises of making them famous.
Buzbee said that the alleged assaults would implicate “many powerful people.” Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges and remains behind bars while awaiting trial.
