Liam Payne was trying to escape his hotel room at CasaSur Palermo through his balcony before falling to his death – and hotel staff reportedly knew that he threatened to use the balcony as a way of getting out.
New security footage from the Buenos Aires, Argentina, hotel has been released. Three hotel employees can be seen carrying the singer to his room. With the release of these clips, authorities now believe that the singer was trying to leave the building.
The footage shows that when employees brought the One Direction star to his room, the singer fought back, not wanting to go inside.
Not long after, a staff member called 911, claiming they were fearful that Payne might use the balcony and injure himself.
“I don’t know whether his life may be in danger. He is in a room with a balcony, and, well, we’re a little afraid,” the employee said, according to the 911 transcript.
Ultimately, employees left Payne alone in his room, knowing an accident could occur.
A police report states that a black hat and Louis Vuitton bag were found next to Payne upon discovering his body – items that were not seen on him in the earlier security footage, meaning he must have put them on after returning to the room.
Two days after Payne’s death, a hotel employee found a separate bag that contained a bottle of whiskey and pills that were labeled “for Liam” on the second-floor balcony, indicating that the singer must have thrown the bag down to the second floor with plans of retrieving it once he made it down.
A coroner suggested that Payne may have been unconscious when he fell but appears to have been alert as he was gathering his belongings.
Despite the hotel’s awareness of the star’s escape plan, a close source revealed that authorities are protecting the hotel and have moved forward with charging three others, including a hotel employee who allegedly dealt drugs to Payne.
Argentinian police believe the singer partied with two women, which led to a drug-fueled bender that resulted in his death.
