María José Alvarado Muñoz, the Honduran beauty queen who was reported missing days ago, was found dead on Wednesday.
Muñoz, who was 19, was found dead with her 23-year-old sister Sofia Trinidad, reported the BBC. Their bodies were found near the River Aguagua in the village of Cablotales, according to the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation chief Leandro Osorio.
Since unearthing Muñoz and Trinidad’s bodies, police have detained Trinidad’s boyfriend Plutarco Ruiz and a man named Aris Maldonado.
“Both are being questioned as part of the investigation into the disappearance of [Ms. Alvarado] and her sister,” police spokesman Jose Coello, who also noted that Ruiz and Maldonado were the last people known to have been with the women on the night of their disappearance, said. “We hope to establish what role they may have played.”
Police have also seized a vehicle and weapons as evidence in the case.
Muñoz and Trinidad were last seen on Thursday, traveling in a car after leaving a party in the Santa Bárbara area.
Muñoz, a student from Santa Bárbara, Honduras, won the Miss World Honduras crown in April. She was scheduled to attend the Miss World pageant in London, which is to being held on Thursday.
