Netflix celebrated the upcoming launch of its new NFL documentary series Receiver with a star-studded premiere at the Netflix Tudum Theater. The event featured NFL stars Amon-Ra St. Brown, Davante Adams, Justin Jefferson and George Kittle, alongside football legend Peyton Manning.
The eight-episode series, set to debut in summer 2024, follows five prominent NFL pass catchers through the 2023 season. Featured players include Adams (Las Vegas Raiders), Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings), Kittle (San Francisco 49ers), Deebo Samuel (San Francisco 49ers) and St. Brown (Detroit Lions).
Receiver builds on the success of Netflix’s Quarterback series, which reached the global top 10 for three weeks last year. The new show is a collaboration between NFL Films, Omaha Productions and 2PM Productions.
Gabe Spitzer, Netflix’s vice president of nonfiction sports, described the series as a natural progression from Quarterback, aiming to highlight the drama of the sport both on and off the field.
Manning, an executive producer on the project, promised unprecedented access to the players’ lives and motivations. “We are excited to give fans an inside look at what it’s like to play receiver at the highest level,” he said.
The premiere event, featuring the athletes walking a green carpet reminiscent of a football field, underscores Netflix’s growing investment in sports documentaries and its strengthening relationship with the NFL.
