Blade Runner 2049
A Blade Runner sequel will be hitting theaters shortly with Harrison Ford returning to the franchise, according to an announcement Thursday.
Denis Villeneuve (Prisoners) has been tapped to direct the Blade Runner sequel and is currently in negotiations with Ford, who will reprise his role of Rick Deckard. The sequel’s script, penned by screenwriters Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, already received Ford’s stamp of approval. The actor was quoted as calling it the “best thing he’s ever read.”
Ridley Scott is producing the Blade Runner installment with Alcon Entertainment’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.
“We are honored that Harrison is joining us on this journey with Denis Villeneuve, who is a singular talent, as we experienced personally on ‘Prisoners,’” Kosove and Johnson said in a joint statement. “Hampton and Michael, with Ridley Scott, have crafted a uniquely potent and faithful sequel to one of the most universally celebrated films of all time, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with this amazing, creative team.”
Ford will be seen later this year in The Age of Adaline with Blake Lively and in the latest Star Wars flick – Star Wars: Episode VII-The Force Awakens. He’s also rumored to reprise the titular role in Indiana Jones 5, though there’s been speculation that Chris Pratt could succeed him in the role.
