Hip-hop artist Missy Elliott has thrilled fans with the announcement of her upcoming tour, “The Missy Elliott Experience,” scheduled for 2024. This will mark Missy Elliott’s first-ever headlining tour.
Along with her on the musical journey are special guests Busta Rhymes, Ciara and Timbaland, who will open each date of the summer tour.
Born as Melissa Arnette Elliott in Portsmouth, Virginia, Missy Elliott initially formed a girl group called Sista with Fayze and Timbaland (Tim Mosley). While the group faced obstacles that prevented the release of their first album, Missy Elliott joined forces with childhood friend Timbaland and the two collaborated on writing and producing songs for artists such as Jodeci and Aaliyah.
At the age of 25, Missy Elliott secured a deal with Elektra Entertainment that allowed her to establish her own record label called Gold Mind Records. Her debut album, Super Dupa Fly (1997), achieved platinum status and earned her a Grammy nomination and the title of Rolling Stone‘s Rap Artist of the Year.
Following her successful debut, Missy Elliott continued to release hit albums, such as Da Real World (1999), which spent nearly a year on the Billboard R&B chart and featured collaborations with artists such as Aaliyah, Eminem and Beyoncé. She achieved platinum status again with Miss E… so addictive (2001), which included the Grammy-winning dance track “Get Ur Freak On.” Missy Elliott continued her streak with the Grammy-winning single “Work It” from her 2002 album Under Construction and her fifth studio album, This is Not a Test! (2003), which featured notable guest appearances by Jay-Z, Nelly, and Mary J Blige.
To give fans a glimpse of what to expect from “The Missy Elliott Experience” tour, Missy Elliott, Busta Rhymes, and Ciara have released a promo video that shows the trio land their spaceship on a distant planet, setting the stage for an otherworldly musical journey.
