On Monday, Hillary Clinton condemned Elon Musk over his recent comment about impregnating singer Taylor Swift.
The former First Lady and Secretary of State spoke about Swift’s endorsement of Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris during an appearance on Kara Swisher‘s On podcast. Musk responded to the endorsement via social media last week.
“Fine Taylor… you win,” he wrote. “I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life.”
During her interview, Clinton mentioned that Musk had said “something really rotten and creepy about” Swift, and was asked by Swisher to comment.
“I can’t understand, you know, why he says what he says,” Clinton said about Musk. “You and I have talked about this before. It just is beyond my imagination.”
“When I see Trump or I see [Musk], but you know really the whole cast of these MAGA characters, and especially for the so-called masters of the universe in the technology world, misogyny is such a part of their worldview, and they gravitate toward toughness and brutality and machoism,” she continued.
“And you know, here’s Taylor Swift, a self-made billionaire who brings joy to people, who imparts life lessons, particularly to girls and women. They can’t stand it,” Clinton stated. She said Musk’s comment was simply “another way of saying rape.”
Many agree with Clinton’s sentiment. The technology mogul faced significant backlash on social media following his post about Swift.
“This is what you post when you have 197 million followers? Harris won the debate tonight, and now you want to give a child to Taylor Swift, who has no interest in you. Is that some sort of alpha male dominance thing to make you feel powerful and virile?” one user commented.
“This tweet just takes things to a whole new level of strange,” another said. “It’s not even eccentric at this point, just outright unsettling.”
