Hillary Clinton and Anna Wintour hugged at a ceremony to unveil a commemorative stamp line in honor of Oscar de la Renta.
The collection features 10 stamps of the late designer’s works, with an eleventh portrait of De la Renta. In honor of the occasion, the Oscar de la Renta fashion house hosted a ceremony at New York City’s Grand Central Terminal, where Clinton and Wintour were in attendance.
Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, gave a speech about the late designer, noting he was “an extraordinary communicator,” though she never knew him to write a letter. She then introduced Secretary Clinton, who spoke about De La Renta being an immigrant.
“Oscar de la Renta was an immigrant, and aren‘t we proud and grateful that he was,“ Clinton said, causing thunderous applause from the audience. She described the first time she met him, and the numerous times their families mingled. “And let there be many, many, more immigrants with the love of America that Oscar de la Renta exemplified every single day,” she concluded.
